Curious Conversations - A Shoshone Elder's Winter Story

"Winter was the Elder's time" says Darren Parry, Vice Chairman of the NW Band of the Shoshone Nation.  A time for stories & wisdom, passed down from one generation to another. In our inaugural series Curious Conversations, we are pleased to welcome one such Elder as he shares a 1 hr Winter poolside story of Shoshone culture, tragedy, and hope. 

January 29th marks the commemoration of The Bear River Massacre, one of the largest losses of Indigenous life at the hands of the Federal Government. To see our past, acknowledge it's pain, and integrate it's lessons is how we prepare for present opportunities and undertake future challenges. Darren will guide our conversation with his story, and the story of his ancestors. It is our belief, that their story is now ours as guests who come to this historic Shoshone land. 

Our inaugural poolside series Curious Conversations aims to introduce guests to topics, ideas, and perspectives that may be new, hard, complicated, and far too often, divisive. For centuries, Humans have gathered in calming mineral water to have these safe, curious dialogues. No debates, no fights, no right, no wrong, just listening. Just curiousness. Just questions. Just understanding. 

This intimate event will safely take place in a socially distanced format with 15 guests invited to soak in our large therapuetic pool or sit and dip their feet while the conversation takes place. Snow or shine, we will be gathered within these healing waters for what promises to be a healing, curious, conversation. 

Attendance is included at no extra charge for overnight guests. Day visitors must purchase a ticket, which also includes your access to the springs until 5 pm.
