Safe Space for Mondays | Maple Grove Hot Springs

A thought on why Mondays can feel overwhelming.

Up here, we are constantly reflecting on how to create, protect, and share the feeling of a "safe space".

Weekends, for modern Humans, are the ultimate safe space. Mondays, however, it seems as if our bubble is attacked, and we are thrown back out into the wild. To jobs, commutes, emails, stress, and more.

So what is safe space, and how can we extend it to Monday?

On our land, Humans share a social environment. Safety comes in the form of agreements that people from all walks of life consent to. Our guest guidelines.

Agreements on noise, drugs, behaviors, and the many times and places for when things flow—and don't—for the collective. Not forever, but for thoughtful moments that foster predictable feelings for days. Rhythms of a day that include agreements.

When we collectively agree to a shared experience, which on our shore is bent toward peace, quiet, and safety, it's an invitation to consider one's role in protecting that atmosphere or imploding it. It's also an invitation to be at ease.

If your heart starts to palpitate and anxiousness settles in on a Monday, try taking a step back and thinking about the rituals and rhythms of your weekdays that include agreements. Things you CAN predict. Moments that you trust. People that put you at ease.

Could be a weekly lunch, a morning meditation, an afternoon walk, or workplace agreements that create a social safety net akin to your living room on a Sunday afternoon.

Monday should feel safe. Agreements help create safety.
