Today, candidly, is about protest.
It’s about everyday people following the lead of those who’ve come before.
Those who spoke up when it wasn’t easy, convenient, or even safe.
Those who had visions that extended beyond the status quo and certainly well above the aging relics of times passed. Times that were racist, sexist, classist, and more.
We continue to celebrate MLK not because he was one person in one moment during one movement but because he and many alongside him represent a decision to dig deep and stand strong.
They saw a wall of ignorance and moved forward still.
They suffered set backs, set ups, and sit downs and spoke loudly ever still.
They protested old ways and pronounced new thinking, being, and doing. And in that wake, their message feels clear -
Wherever you live and whoever you are, LOOK AROUND.
See whats broken and fix it. Listen to those suffering and heal it. Witness hunger and feed it.
Discover injustice and PROTEST IT.
Today is an invitation to KNOW YOUR CAUSE and to STAND UP FOR IT.
In a world that worships the cult of self - my needs, my wants, my stuff, & even my wellness, today is a reminder that....
UNTIL YOU ARE FREE, I AM NOT FREE.
So look around, know your cause, and GET TO WORK.
