Presence Over Presents

Over the years, we've observed that wellness rarely comes from things. Whether in family, friendships, communities and more, that sneaky little state of joy often bubbles up in subtle little moments.

Sometimes, in moments we plan - like this Seasons's Do Good Be Well Run for Your Lake Fundraiser where we raised nearly $5 k for efforts to Save the Great Salt Lake.

Other times, in moments that catch us by surprise - like learning on a zoom call that the Pacificorp storage dam was being shut down a few months ago.

But mostly, the moments are somewhere right in the middle. Not really part of a big plan nor born from the ripples of some extravagant surprise. Instead, from the pretty ordinary comings and goings where we happen to be paying particularly close attention to the right here and now.

Attention to our thoughts, to the way the sun feels on our cheek, to the people (familiar and not) who are right in front of us, to those elders of ours telling their stories and to those littles of ours asking their questions.

Moments, planned, surprised, & utterly mundane make the MAGIC.

So what's our advice as we all race to put on our best Christmas magic show yet for those we love? No dollar spent, no package wrapped & no thing boxed will ever beat the simple gift of being present with those you love.

When in doubt, err on the side of memories over materials, experiences instead of extra stuff, and growth before goodies. And, when all the wrapping is undone, never underestimate the power of simply being around to watch it all unfold.
