QPR | Essential Skills for Suicide Prevention

Are you aware that there is likely someone in your life who is experiencing deep emotional pain and is contemplating suicide?

Suicide touches every family, friendship, and classroom.

It's no secret, that this far-reaching shared experience is in epidemic proportions.

And sadly, if you paused... just for a moment, chances are it wouldn't take long for someone to pop into your mind.

The National Institute of Mental Health highlights a sobering reality: in 2021, suicide was the eleventh leading cause of death in the United States, with over 48,100 lives tragically lost.

This statistic reminds us of the many battles and the deep struggles affecting individuals across various communities.

And, if we reflect, we may recognize someone within our circles who this tragedy has touched.

Let us call in our power, and accept that we can profoundly impact those suffering around us.

We each play a part.

We are in this together.

In the past Maple has hosted Poolside Suicide Prevention Training utilizing the QPR method.

We are committed to continuing this essential program in the future.

Mental health fluctuations are natural and far too often the stigma surrounding them prevents open community discussions about this human experience.

"Nature has given us all of the pieces required to achieve exceptional health and wellness, but it has left it to us to put the pieces together." - Diane McLaren

The conversation about mental health and suicide prevention is on the tips of our tongues, in the front of our minds, and wrapped around our hearts.  By participating in suicide prevention training, we empower ourselves to make a difference.

This one-hour training includes a free soaking pass for all who sign up and an afternoon of soaking before, during, and after the training.

Maple has been fortunate to have Southern Idaho health education specialist Matt Hardin guide our training sessions in the past.

To stay current on announcements for upcoming trainings, future instructors and class information stay tuned through the Maple Grove Event Calendar and Maple Grove Instagram.

Each and everyone one of us must learn the essential tools to question, persuade, and refer to loved ones in their moments of need.

Someone you don't even know is depending on it.
